Proteins are one of the main building blocks for our bodies. They make muscles, organs skin, tendons, hormones, enzymes, and neurotransmitters. So protein is kind of important. But what is protein? Protein is made out of smaller molecules called amino acids, and amino acids are together like chain links. So protein, which is a long chain, is like a really dope chain that 2 Chainz wears.
But how much protein are you supposed to eat? You should eat around 10-35% of your daily calories in protein, that’s estimated around 56 grams for a sedentary man and 46 grams for a sedentary woman. But it’s not hard to hit those numbers, and I’m here to talk about one of my favourite protein filled foods (drinks).
I love having a protein shake for lunch every now and again. During school when I was lazy in making my lunch, I would just make a protein shake because I knew it would keep me full and it was easy. The brand I love is BSN and their Syntha-6 line. I have the flavor Chocolate Milkshake and it is unreal. I’ve had other protein powders in the past that were upright disgusting. This is not the case my friends. This tastes just like a chocolate milkshake. If I’m feeling fancy with my protein shake I’ll add a banana so it’s like a chocolate banana milkshake, or I’ll add PB2 (watch out for more info on this later) and it’s like a liquid Reese’s cup.
A lot of people add water to their protein shakes, which I’ve never done. I add unsweetened cashew milk (I don’t drink regular milk), which is 25 calories a cup. So it’s an extra 50 calories (because I add 2 cups), but it adds an extra creaminess which I think is worth it.
Another thing you are probably wondering about is the nutrition, duh. Because that’s like the main point of a meal replacement. This protein powder is a little higher in calories than others at 200 calories, Quest protein has only 100 calories and Cellucor protein has 130 calories. But the calories are worth it for the taste. It also packs a mean punch in protein with 22 grams per serving. And if you’re also following your macros (macronutrients) it has 6 grams fat and 15 grams carbs. So if I were to have this for lunch it would be 250 calories (protein and cashew milk), which is not that bad for 22 grams of protein.
So if you are looking for an easy, protein filled lunch I suggest looking into protein powders.
